On the Status, Origin and Evolution of Hotspots of Biodiversity

Abstract

Perceptions differ about the area encompassing and the species composition of hotspots of biodiverisity which are emergency care areas of global conservation.  Zoogeographical locations of the eighteen hotspots recognized by Myers are given, a few others identified later are named and some deserving recognition are mentioned.  Some factors which have contributed to the orgin, richness and evolution of the biodiversity of hotspots is discussed.
