Abstract

Breeding biology of the Indian Roofed Turtle (Kachuga tecta) was studied at the Sayaji Baug Zoo, Vadodara, Gujarat during 1991-1999.  Courtship was observed from September to January and nesting during October to April with peak in January and February.  A total of 34 nests per year.  The clutch size was 5.8 eggs, which ranged from 3 to 12 eggs per clutch.  Average incubation period was 108 days, which varied from 64 to 195 days.  Breeding success was 48.81 per cent, and temperaturs played a vital role in the breeding performance of the species.
